El general en su laberinto

El general en su laberinto by Gabriel García Márquez (Colombia)

Novel, 274 pages (1989)

This is the provocative historical novel of the last military campaigns of Simón Bolívar, the Liberator of South America, with his lifetime of personal and political triumphs and disasters illuminated in vivid flashbacks. It is a subjective account of the life and times of a complex, enigmatic figure both revered and reviled for his valor and vision. This is not an easy book to take on because, after all, the author is Nobel prize winner and legendary storyteller Gabriel García Márquez who writes with bountiful vocabulary, long paragraphs, and little dialogue. However, do not be dissuaded for the resource package will make it an exciting, digestible, satisfying read.
